NEW YORK (AP) — The nation’s largest pilots’ union says it has enough signatures to qualify for a representation election at JetBlue, whose pilots are nonunion.

The Air Line Pilots Association said Monday that it filed cards with the National Mediation Board for an election that could be held as early as March.

A spokeswoman for the New York-based airline said the company believes that a direct relationship without a union is best for the pilots. JetBlue Airways Corp. executives said last week that the company would spend $145 million over the next three years to boost pilot pay by 20 percent. The company employs about 2,500 pilots.
