Air- US Airways-American Airlines to officially close merger Monday – Phoenix Business Journal

Tempe-based US Airways Group Inc. will formally consummate its merger with American Airlines Monday with events in Arizona and Texas.The $17 billion merger will create the world’s largest airline with 100,000 employees, 9,000 of whom are in the Phoenix area.The carrier will fly under the American name and have its headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas — not Tempe.US Airways chairman and CEO Doug Parker will be CEO of the new American Airlines. Parker will be in Texas for Monday’s merger events.There will be events also hosted US Airways’ Mill Avenue headquarters building in Tempe.The new American Airlines will trade on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the symbol AAL.The carriers have eight hub airports including Phoenix Sky Harbor International.
