BURLESON — Burleson school bus drivers and monitors for Durham School Services, a national company that provides student transportation for school districts, voted Wednesday to join the Transport Workers of America union.

The vote was 42 to 12, said Ofelia Gonzalez, assistant to the regional director, National Labor Relations Board, which conducted the election.

Burleson schools is the second Durham site in Texas to unionize. Workers at Durham’s Weatherford schools site voted to join the TWU in May. A vote among employees in the Northwest school district failed in March.

Forty of the 58 Durham workers in Burleson signed cards to call for a vote on unionization, said Linda Dill, a TWA organizer.

They sought better pay, and the addition of paid holidays, sick time and vacation time, said J.L. Gunter, a bus driver.
